well finding a fabric without defects is really difficult. it's like you are going to find a perfect man or woman to marry... however these defects can make a fabric lower in quality and ultimately it will be another wasted product.
fabric defects can be categorized mainly as below
this classification can be used to decide the severity of the defects but there can be other classifications too.
for an example I made below classification considering how the defect occur
there are more to say about defetcs.... wait for the next pages !!!!

Visual fabric inspection
ReplyDeleteVisual inspection can be done manual and automated depends on the machinery type.
Fabric Inspection Machine
These machines are designed as the fabric rolls are mounted behind the inspection table under sufficient light and rerolled as they leave the table. Defects in the fabric can be found easily with these machines, as the inspector has a clear view of the fabric. The inspection machines are either power driven or the inspector pulls the fabric over the inspection table. The defects are located, marked and recorded in the inspection form. Such machines are also equipped to accurately measure the length and the width of each roll of the fabric.
Hey this is what i found.. hope it may help your research
ReplyDeleteyes indeed, they are helpful. I will add them to my research project. Thank you so much Diniti. Besides if you could find more on automated fabric inspection machinery, please let me know. :)
DeleteAs i know there are some objectives in fabric inspection. below what i know
ReplyDeletethey are early detection of defects,
feedback of this information to the appropriate people,
and determination of the cause,
ultimately resulting in the correction of the problem..
besides, there are several grading systems in the world but i don't which are used in Sri Lankan industry
4 points system
6 points system
9 points system
10 point system
Graniteville system
As i know 4 point system is often used. Isn't it?
DeleteThank you Mekhala. This is a very good information.
DeleteAccording to my research findings 4 point system and 9 point system have been used in SL but now often used 4 point system which is easy and clear.
yes Dilini. you are correct. 4 point system is the most popular method currently !
DeleteDo these Classifications represent all the defect types that affect the saleability of a Garment?
ReplyDeletewell if we take first classification, yes you can classified all the defects like that, but when it comes to the second classification, it speaks only about fabric defects. Defects can be divided into two as fabric defects and garment defects..
Deletei'll post some links here later for you to get more information
